Supplier also launches two dedicated blackjack tables with EveryMatrix

NetEnt has advanced its live casino offering by adding three new standard blackjack tables in its Qormi studio and signing a deal to provide dedicated tables to CasinoEngine, EveryMatrix’s iGaming Integration Platform. The increased studio capacity expands NetEnt Live’s operations and has been created in response to heightened demand for the supplier’s live products over the last year. The latest partnership with EveryMatrix, the first dedicated table deal secured by the supplier this year, builds on the rapid growth that has allowed NetEnt to quickly expand its market share in the vertical. The news comes as the supplier continues to invest in its live business, expanding the core portfolio, introducing new games and formats, as well as advancing its proprietary chroma-key technology. “Given the recent achievements of NetEnt Live it made sense strategically to expand operations of our Malta studio, building capacity for the future projected growth,” said Andres Rengifo, Director of NetEnt Live. “Meanwhile, by securing a key reseller partnership with EveryMatrix, we have strengthened our position within the live casino industry as a trusted supplier for dedicated business.” “NetEnt is a valuable partner to our business, and we are pleased to expand our existing partnership in live casino. The new blackjack tables are a valuable asset for our clients, and we are certain they will deliver amazing entertainment. EveryMatrix is a flexible provider, always looking to offer operators the entertainment options they need to grow,” Amund Stensland, CasinoEngine COO.
North-east England is under new, tighter restrictions following a spike in Covid-19 infections in the area. The tighter controls mean that pubs and bars – and casinos are included in this, despite not being allowed to open until some time after pubs earlier in the year – are now subject to a 10pm curfew. Health secretary Matt Hancock confirmed the measures in a House of Commons statement on September 17th, with their enforcement beginning Friday, September 18th. The heightened restrictions apply to: Northumberland, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Gateshead, Sunderland, and County Durham.
Restrictions include:

A spokesperson for the Betting and Gaming Council said: “This is a hugely disappointing and illogical decision which will inevitably lead to job losses in the casino sector.

“While we fully support the need to act quickly to protect public health, the simple fact is that casinos are among the most Covid-secure in the country, so ordering their closure as a way of slowing the spread of the virus makes no sense.

“Just last month, casinos in England were given the go-ahead by public health experts to re-open after they saw for themselves the anti-Covid measures they had put in place – from Perspex screens to best-in-class track and trace systems.

“What’s more, most casino customers are on their own or in couples, making it easier to maintain social distancing in venues.

“And with casinos doing between 50 and 70 per cent of their trade between 10pm and 5am, they will be disproportionately harmed by the Government’s decision, meaning some may never be able to open their doors again.

“We would urge ministers to urgently reconsider this catastrophic and retrograde move.” | | | Through an extension of their existing partnership, Wazdan’s popular games – including 9 Lions, Larry the Leprechaun, Relic Hunters, Butterfly Lovers™, and Magic Stars 5 – can now reach players across Portugal. Central government and local authorities are considering the drastic measure, which would see venues across the country forced to close their doors.

In a letter to Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden, BGC chief executive Michael Dugher and Genting UK boss Paul Wilcock say such a move would “devastate” casinos, which do between 50 and 70 per cent of their trade after 10pm.

Britain’s casinos – which employ 14,000 people and have contributed £1.3bn in tax to the Treasury over the last three years – only re-opened in August after closing in March as part of the country-wide coronavirus lockdown.

They have been praised for their stringent anti-Covid measures, such as limits on capacity, Perspex screens and sophisticated track and trace systems, with Public Health England and the Department for Health and Social Care declaring casinos were not “higher risk” in July.

In their letter, Mr Dugher and Mr Wilcock point out that a typical casino visitor is aged 48, well above the age profile that ministers and councillors would be trying to target with the imposition of a curfew.

Furthermore, groups of young adults do not tend to gather in casinos to drink after 10pm, with venues vowing to take action to actively prevent it.

The letter says: “To ensure the sector’s survival it is vital that any additional Covid social distancing measures, such as curfews, are not imposed on businesses that have demonstrated that they are Covid-secure and do not cater for the age group targeted by the measure.

“The introduction of a blanket measure such as curfews would certainly result in many thousands of redundancies in a very short timeframe.  It is no exaggeration to state that it would devastate the UK land-based casino sector.”

It goes on: “The conclusion to draw is that the impact of a casino curfew on Covid numbers would be negligible but the impact on our businesses would be catastrophic.”

With attendances at casinos at between 5 and 60% of pre-Covid levels, the letter also urges the Government to either extend the furlough scheme – which is due to end next month – or introduce other targeted support for businesses trying to get back on their feet.

Michael Dugher said: “We support the need to act swiftly to protect public health, and thank the Government for the support they have given the UK’s casinos so far.

“However, a blanket 10pm curfew on businesses would be catastrophic and force casinos to close once again – this time for good. It would certainly result in many thousands of redundancies, while having a negligible impact on the spread of Covid.

“Since reopening In August, casinos have been able to protect customers and staff through providing best in class safety measures, including sophisticated track and trace systems. Any new social distancing measures should be focused on the areas and age groups of the country at most risk, not just arbitrarily applied across the board.”

Videoslots has also put in place its own in-house trading team who will unveil a number of gamification features and cross-over style products that will appeal to its well-established casino player base.

The project is being spearheaded by industry veteran Martin Calleja, who believes the timing is right for a new approach that will both excite customers and disrupt the industry.

He added: “We expect sports betting will be close to being back normal next month and, with sports fans not necessarily able to attend matches in person, a fresh new sportsbook will be the next best thing with which to engage their favourite sports.

“Videoslots is now in a place where we can invest, increase our offering and differentiate it, hence the decision to go with our own technology, platform and team rather than a cookie-cutter approach that would blend into the background.

“We are very conscious that we have to take our casino audience with us and then grow it in a socially responsible way by adding sports fans looking for an alternative betting product.

“We’ve always done very well at engaging with our audience and providing a better user experience than is available elsewhere. As a result, we’re very excited about replicating that in the sportsbook arena.”

In addition to its SGA licence, Videoslots Sports holds a Malta Gaming Authority licence and the operator is currently in the process of applying to the equivalent regulators in the United Kingdom and Denmark.

The resumption of the Premier League and English Football League will see hundreds of matches shown live on Sky TV and BT Sport.

But expert analysis of the “whistle to whistle” ban on TV betting ads shows the amount seen by 4 to 17-year-olds during matches was reduced to almost zero in its first year in operation.

And overall, the amount of gambling ads viewed by youngsters has fallen by 70% over the full duration of live sport programmes.

Under the ban, betting adverts must not be shown on TV during commercial breaks from five minutes before a live sporting event begins until five minutes after it ends, prior to the 9pm watershed.

It was introduced by members of the Betting and Gaming Council – which represents the regulated betting industry, excluding the National Lottery – on 1 August, 2019.

A study by Enders Analysis found that during the whistle to whistle period, the number of betting ads seen by children during commercial breaks fell by 97%.

The BGC highlighted the findings as football fans gear up to hundreds of live Premier League and English Football League matches in the 2020/21 season.

The first televised match will be the Championship clash between Watford and Middlesborough tonight (FRI).

Ongoing Covid-19 restrictions mean that the vast majority of fans will have no option other than to watch their favourites from the sofa rather than at the ground.   Whistle-to-whistle

The Enders Analysis study also found that the whistle to whistle ban contributed to a reduction of 1.7 billion views of betting ads during the first five months it was in operation.

Meanwhile, there were 109 million fewer gambling ads viewed across four comparative weekends as a result of the ban.

Total betting advertising exposure during live sport before 9pm also declined by 78%.

In addition, the research found that there was no apparent displacement of gambling advertising to other evening sports programmes, with the number of post-watershed ads also down by 28%.

Since being set up last year, the BGC has introduced a range of measures aimed at improving standards in the industry.

These include a requirement that at least 20% of TV and radio betting advertisements are safer gambling messages, cooling off periods on gaming machines, new ID and age verification checks, encouraging deposit limits and boosting funding for research, education and treatment.

And from 1 October, tough new measures are being introduced to further prevent under-18s from seeing betting ads online.

Michael Dugher, chief executive of the Betting and Gaming Council, said: “As a football fan, I can’t wait for the new season in England to start.

“But with matches still being played behind closed doors because of Covid-19, supporters will have no choice but to watch their favourites on TV.

“I’m therefore delighted by the success of the whistle to whistle ban in virtually eliminating the ability of young people to see betting adverts on TV during commercial breaks.

“The BGC was set up to improve standards in our industry, and this is a clear example of that commitment.

“At the same time, we urge the Government to work with us to crack down on black market operators who have no interest in safer gambling or protecting their customers and do not work to the same responsible standards as BGC members.

“The forthcoming Gambling Review will also provide further opportunities to improve standards and we look forward to working with the Government on this.” | | | The new site will enable Spanish customers to “play with more” at their favourite casino or sportsbook via simple-to-use tools that allow players of all levels to find the ideal personalised bonus to suit their playing style.   Only locally licensed operators feature on the site, while BonusFinder has verified and tested all its partners to ensure they meet criteria including clear bonus rules, fast payments, excellent customer service and a responsible and fair gaming experience.   BonusFinder has rapidly established itself as a leading licensed online gambling affiliate since its inception in 2019 and now offers numerous country specific sites in Europe including the UK, Germany, Sweden, Italy and Denmark, as well as being licensed in six states in the burgeoning US market.     Fintan Costello, Managing Director, BonusFinder.com, said: “We have experienced huge growth over the last year and are thrilled to go live in yet another strong European jurisdiction.   “The Spanish online market is mature with many well-established, successful brands and we are excited to work with them to offer players an easy, safe and responsible way to find the right bonuses and offers to improve their experience and maximise the value of their deposit.”   | | |

The Why iGaming initiative has been kicked off with the launch of a new website,  www.whyigaming.eu, containing over 250 open jobs from iGEN’s member companies. While the content is primarily aimed at Maltese residents, it also contains information for foreign nationals who are interested in relocation to Malta in order to work in the industry. Over time the website will be built out to include even more jobs posts, information for foreign nationals seeking work in Malta and career-related industry news. While the website is a core part of the initiative, it will also be expanded to include other local career-related and community activities on behalf of the industry.

Careers in online gambling have traditionally been seen as attractive in Malta due to the salaries and perks on offer as well as exciting growth opportunities. However, initial research performed by Why iGaming has shown that there are perceived barriers to entry.

Enrico Bradamante, founder and chairman of iGEN said: “Malta continues to be an extremely important hub for iGaming. Our vision is to provide a way for the biggest and most established iGaming companies to connect with the local community and talent, in particular providing a resource to individuals who are interested in working in the sector. Professionals can use our website to find out about our members, search for open roles and hear the truth about what it is like to work in the industry from a number of Maltese and foreign employees who work locally. This is not only in order to help fill current roles such as entry level roles, customer support, finance roles and other management and executives roles, but also future opportunities as the site will be constantly updated.”

Ivan Filletti, COO of GamingMalta said: “This portal is in sync with our mission to position Malta as the Home of Gaming Excellence. A home where talent succeeds and thrives. An industry and iGaming ecosystem which promotes equality and diversity in their working culture. Why iGaming will serve as a real time showcase for the industry and the exciting opportunities which it offers. At GamingMalta, we will continue to support like-minded initiatives and being of constant support to iGEN and the sector in general.”

In his keynote speech at the event launch for Why iGaming on 14 September, Parliamentary Secretary for Financial Services and Digital Economy Clayton Bartolo highlighted that human capital is a key component to build-up a successful workforce in the iGaming industry. He added that the ‘Why iGaming Initiative’ will be another important measure complementing the Government’s mission of creating a Digital Malta in the years to come. | | | The integration gives Casoony access to the supplier’s entire portfolio of over 100 games, including Football Manager and Raccoon Tales, along with the ground-breaking RPG-inspired title, Dungeon: Immortal Evil. This is a really exciting project to support the awareness and the communication of these potential harms facing young people to practitioners through co-creating workshop materials as well as developing the concept of digital resilience.” YGAM have appointed a highly qualified clinician to lead this ground-breaking programme which will initially start in London before expanding to the West Midlands in 2021 and then a potential national rollout in 2022.   Natural progression   YGAM CEO and Founder Lee Willows believes that the Mindful Resilience programme is a natural progression of the prevention work YGAM have done so far: “Gambling-related harm is a public health issue so this initiative will give healthcare practitioners the expert knowledge, support and resources they need. In bringing together these highly respected organisations, we can combine our resources and insight to provide an incredibly important training programme. I’m confident this new programme will complement YGAM’s existing prevention programmes and will have a hugely positive impact on the lives of individuals who seek help”. Another partner central to delivering the objectives of the Mindful Resilience initiative is the Canada-based Responsible Gambling Council (RGC), which operates globally. Dr Sasha Stark, a Senior Researcher with the RGC, spoke about the organisation’s role in the training programme behind Mindful Resilience: “RGC will lead the evaluation of the Mindful Resilience training programme, providing an independent assessment of the programme’s delivery and impact among participating health care professionals. We look forward to working alongside leaders in the prevention and education space in the UK to increase health care professionals’ awareness of and skills for identifying problematic gambling and other digital behaviours. Limited information is available to primary care professionals on gambling-related harms and we believe this initiative will both support practitioners in their work and increase access to support for a large number of patients experiencing harm”. Betknowmore are also playing a pivotal role in the creation of the resources and training delivery. Its CEO and Founder Frankie Graham, himself a former gambling addict, is passionate about the impact that this new project could have on the Health Care Community. He said: “Betknowmore UK has pioneered working closely with local communities, and in doing so, we understand the role that health and community services can play in addressing gambling-related harm. It is quite right that health care professionals have enhanced understanding and recognition of gambling harms, and the tools to engage positively and authentically with individuals who may present with gambling issues.” The Mindful Resilience programme will be delivered collaboratively, with Bournemouth University taking the lead for training content creation; RGC will take the lead on evaluation; Betknowmore UK & YGAM will deliver practitioner recruitment and training. YGAM will lead the partnership and lead on building strategic relevance. | | | This will be delivered across multiple formats, helping raise interest and awareness of Africa’s leading gaming industry trade show – and the opportunities for gaming businesses across the continent. A virtual discussion on the report’s key findings will follow, featuring exclusive insights from iGB’s principal data partner H2 Gambling Capital.   6-8 October – National Gaming Board round-tables Working with ICE Africa, the South African National Gaming Board is giving delegates the opportunity to speak to regulators, country experts and suppliers in an informal setting, providing registrants with direct access to those in the know. This will be available on a first come, first served basis, though all sessions will be recorded and widely shared.   27-29 October – ICE Africa Digital All of this takes place ahead of the event proper, which runs on 27-29 October, on the SwapCard platform. The three days of panel discussions and presentations now includes an iGB Affiliate content stream on 28 October, providing a platform for performance marketing professionals targeting the continent to discuss evolving markets and regulatory changes. ICE Africa has been moved online for 2020 as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, but it will still deliver the same exceptional outcomes and experiences that delegates expect from Clarion Gaming. All content, both from the road to ICE Africa and the event proper, will be available on-demand after the show. Now in its third year, the event brings together experts from across the continent and gives delegates with the opportunity to learn, engage and discuss the key market developments. The full line-up of live content will be released as the roadmap to ICE Africa progresses. This will be underpinned by event coverage via Clarion Gaming’s publishing brand iGB, and bespoke training from Totally Gaming Academy. | | | To determine the most sought-after titles of the year, JohnSlots has conducted its own research into which game reviews have been searched for the most on its site so far this year. Goblin’s Cave, a high RTP (return to player) slot, is miles ahead, with NetEnt’s timeless classic, Starburst, coming in second place. Microgaming slots have also proved particularly popular among JohnSlots users, with five of their titles – Private Eye, Mega Moolah, Immortal Romance, 9 Pots of Gold and Thunderstruck 2 – appearing in the list of 2020’s ten hottest slots. The analysis then goes on to look at visits vs search volume, which shows the comparison between how many players have been searching for a slot and how many of those players then read about that slot on JohnSlots. In addition, JohnSlots offers some insights into the top slot providers of the year as well as the top slots by country in some key markets. Microgaming’s 9 Pots Of Gold takes the top spot in the UK, with Legacy of Dead (Play’n GO) leading the way in Germany. Pragmatic Play’s new slot The Dog House Megaways is number one in Sweden. James Byrne, Senior Content Editor at JohnSlots, said: “There are some really interesting results to take away from this data. While we might have expected universally popular titles like Book of Dead or Starburst to be way out in front, players are clearly interested in trying new and even lesser known games in 2020. “This is particularly the case when looking at the results in individual countries like the UK, Germany and Sweden. Having said that, when looking at the data as a whole, there is a clear trend for players engaging with high RTP slots, as well as some of the timeless classics.” | | | Commenting on this latest agreement, Aleksandr Kosogov, CEO at Gamzix, said: “This agreement gives us the green light to show our product in the worldwide market. Six interactive digital training modules have been released which cover key topics including customer vulnerability, safeguarding, customer interaction, identifying harm and employee mental health and well-being. The training content is all relevant to the Gambling Commissions latest LCCP requirements and has received funding from regulatory settlements to support the delivery of the National Strategy to Reduce Gambling-related Harms. The Canada-based Responsible Gambling Council (RGC) is also involved in the alliance acting as independent evaluation partners. Lee Willows, Chief Executive of YGAM said “Our journey with Betknowmore UK has been humbling. Together we have been fortunate to work with a number of operators to deliver face-to-face training over the last 12 months and so having a strategic alliance to continue this and combine with digital learning seems a good natural progression.  Player protection and understanding customer vulnerability is an area we know operators want to upskill their staff in. “Safer Gambling Training will support the customer facing teams by increasing their understanding gambling-related harm through the lens of lived-experience. We are working with international partners to scope an International Standard that colleagues within the sector can take with them throughout their career, and which includes regular mandatory updates and refresher courses.” Frankie Graham, Chief Executive of Betknowmore said: “Companies operating in the gambling space require trained employees providing consistent, high level and trusted customer service. Our aim with this new training programme is to help raise standards and create a benchmark of knowledge and understanding of gambling-related harm. We have developed content with collaboration from those with lived experience of gambling, combined with the insight and knowledge from our partner organisations who are experts within their sector. We will continue to develop our programme, ensuring it remains fit for the changing, dynamic gambling market, with the ultimate purpose of keeping players safe and free from harm.” Design agency Me&You are designing a new Safer Gambling website and eLearning content.
